GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 11th. September, 1917.
gov 20350.
Referring to your despatch No. 79 of the 1st Kay, 1917, I have the honour to infom you that on further consideration I wish to make a fresh recommendation on the subject of the emoluments of Mr. R. J. Stevenson, Electrician of the Public Works Department.
2.
Mr. Stevenson joined the service in November, 1912, being then 49 years of age. He was too old to be placed upon the permanent staff and is not therefore eligible for the rent allowances recently granted. He has been drawing £370 from 1st January, 1917, and it seems unlikely with annual increments of £10, that he will ever attain the maximum salary of his post, which is £420.
I recommend therefore that he be given
biennial increments of £30 and that he should draw £390 from
1st January, 1918. In anticipation of your approval provision has been made accordingly in the Estimates for
1918.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Bring
Governor, &c..
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M. P.,
